A cookie is a text-based data file that a website may ask to store in a site visitor’s computer. Cookies are often used to give visitors access to various functions or services on the site. The information in the cookies will vary from site to site, but is normally used to improve the user experience. There are two types of cookies: cookies and session cookies.

  • As an example, cookies are used to tell the visitor what has happened on the site since the last visit. These types of cookies can also be used to keep statistics and to store your login username and password for access to services. The expiration time of these cookies is set by the website.
  • Session cookies can be used during the time the visitor is active on the site. These cookies are only temporarily stored in your computer’s memory and are automatically deleted when closing the browser. A common use of this type of cookie is to keep track of temporary settings such as language and CSS. They can also facilitate certain type of site navigation.

New law on electronic communications

The Electronic Communications Act came into force on 25 July 2003 and was last updated on 1 July 2011. The law states that one must provide information about the purpose of processing stored data and that the user must agree to this. Nordnet uses cookies to control the site’s functions, to keep statistics and for session management. We do not store any personal information in cookies. If you do not want to accept cookies, your browser can be set to automatically reject cookies or to inform you every time a website asks to store a cookie. Through the browser you can also delete previously stored cookies. Nordnet’s site will not function satisfactory without the acceptance of cookies.

Since Nordnet uses cookies in its session management, this function must be activated before you can access the Nordnet websites.
